Hackathon Structure on Friday August 23rd, 2024

The in-person NGO hackathon challenge will test your ability to collaborate, communicate, and develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges faced by non-profit organizations (NGOs) partnering with Mastercard.

  • Team Formation: Selected candidates are grouped into teams of 6 - 8 members by Mastercard, ensuring diversity in terms of academic backgrounds, skills, and experiences. This diversity fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and a range of perspectives.

  • NGO Challenge Briefing: Each team is assigned a specific challenge or problem statement provided by an NGO partner of Mastercard. The challenge may relate to areas such as financial inclusion, digital payments, or social impact. Teams receive detailed briefings and background information to understand the context and scope of the challenge.

  • Solution Development: Teams work collaboratively to brainstorm ideas, conduct research, and develop innovative solutions to address the assigned challenge. They leverage their technical skills, creativity, and knowledge to propose viable solutions with the potential for positive social impact. Solutions should be practical, scalable, and aligned with the needs of the NGO partner and the target community.

  • Presentation: Each team presents their solution to a panel of judges, consisting of representatives from Mastercard (MA Tech Leadership), partnering NGOs, and industry experts. Presentations should be concise, persuasive, and effectively communicate the problem statement, solution approach, and anticipated impact. Teams utilize multimedia tools, visuals, and storytelling techniques to engage the audience and convey the significance of their solution.
