An Overview of Mastercard’s Hiring Process

We want you to feel relaxed and confident going into your interview which is why we've created this comprehensive overview of Mastercard’s recruitment process, so you know what to expect once you apply for a role.
*Note: this is a general guideline for Mastercard’s hiring process globally and may vary depending on your location and the role you are applying to.

1

Submitting an Application

Once you have identified the position on our career site that you are interested in applying for, you will need to click on the “Apply Now” button. You will then be brought to the application process where you will upload your resume/cv and then complete information about your experience, application questions, and voluntary disclosures.

Depending on how much information you provide, this process can take between 3 – 20 minutes. You will receive a confirmation email when the application process has been successfully submitted.

A recruiter will review your application and will contact you via email should your skills be a match for the role. Depending on how many applications we receive, it may take a few weeks for our team to review resumes. In general, we do our best to respond within a few days of your application. You can always check the status of your application by logging into your Workday account  where you will see your application status for each role you’ve applied to under the “My Applications” section.

*Note: due to the high volume of applications we receive, we may not be able to reach out to each candidate directly, however you can check the status of your application at any time.

2

Recruiter Phone Screen

Once the recruiter has reviewed your application, and if they believe you are a fit for the role, they will contact you via email to set up a time for a phone screen. This initial phone interview is an opportunity for the recruiter to hear more about your background and skills to see if there is a fit. It is also your chance to learn more about the role, life at Mastercard and decide whether you see this as the right career move. It’s just as important to us that you feel like this is a great fit! This call generally lasts 30 minutes.

There is usually time at the end of the interview for a few questions, so be sure to think through which are most important.

3

Hiring Manager Interview

Once the initial phone screen is complete, and if you and the recruiter believe the role is a fit based on your background and experience, they will present your information to the hiring manager for review. If the hiring manager is interested in moving forward, an interview will be scheduled with them.

The hiring manager interview will be focused on your skills related to the job and understanding how you like to work, what kind of teams you like to be on, etc. It’s a great opportunity for you to get to know your potential manager and ask questions about them, their team, and the role. This call generally takes between 30-60 minutes and may be conducted over the phone or video call.

Team and
Role-Specific Interviews

After your call with the hiring manager, they will decide on whether or not you will proceed in the interview process. You should also be deciding during this time whether this role and Mastercard are the right fit for you.

If you’ve decided you’d like to move forward, and the hiring manager feels the same way, you will proceed to our next round of interviews. This process will vary depending on the role you are interviewing for. Depending on the role, you may experience our:

Your recruiter will schedule a series of virtual or on-site interviews with 2 to 4 team members. This may require traveling to one of our office locations and meeting with multiple people. It may also include video interviews with our team members located remotely. Depending on the number of people you will be interviewing with, their schedules/locations, and your schedule, this process may take a couple of weeks to organize.

5

Selection

Following your interviews, our team will connect to make a final decision. Your recruiter or the hiring manager will remain in contact during this time and let you know once a decision is made. You will receive a phone call from the recruiter or the hiring manager to discuss the feedback and decision.

We strive to have decisions made as quickly as possible following interviews but there are times it may take a few weeks depending on the number of candidates interviewing and the availability of the hiring team. Should you have any questions during this time, please contact your recruiter.

6

Offer

Once the decision is final, your recruiter or hiring manager will contact you and provide you with a verbal offer. From there, they will send you a formal offer letter which we ask that you review and sign by the date outlined in the offer.

When your recruiter receives your signed offer letter, this may begin any local background check processes. You will receive instructions on the completion of this step via email. The background check process can take a couple of weeks for processing. During this time, you will likely hear from your new manager to start discussing your first week.
